1. Launch CAPITAL Business Manager.
2. Open the General Ledger area.
3. If you are adding a new bank account, scroll to the Current Assets section of the chart. If you are adding a credit card or other debt instrument, move to the Current Liabilities area.
4. Press Add.
5. Enter a general ledger code that is consistent with any general ledger codes that may already exist. For example, if the last bank account has a code of 30320 and you are adding a bank account, then enter 30330 if available.
Tip: If you already have an account in your chart similar to what you want to add, select this account and press SHIFT-Add. This will copy most of the details of the account into the new account.
6. Enter a 'Name' (description)
7. Enter the 'Chart Type' as 'Bank' for bank accounts or 'Posting' for other types.
8. Enter next to 'Classification' either 'Current Asset' for a bank account, or 'Current Liability' for a credit card or similar.
9. Enter next to 'Posting' either 'Debit' for bank accounts, or 'credit' for credit cards or other debt instruments.
10. You may leave the 'Tax Code' blank.
11. Ensure 'Clear Year End' is unticked.
12. Press Save.
13. Open your Cash Manager area.
14. If a list of bank are presented continue to the next step. If a cashbook immediately opens, select from the menu Record|Open Cashbook.
15. Press Add to add a new cashbook.
16. Enter an 'Account Code', 'Account Name' and tick 'Short List' if you intend to use this cashbook frequently.
17. Enter any other information that you wish to keep track of and press Save.
18. You will be prompted to link your new cashbook to your general ledger account code. Click on Yes.
19. Scroll through the list of general ledger account codes and select the account you created in step 4 above, then press the Select button.
20. If correct, press Yes to confirm the link creation.
Your General Ledger and Cash Manager have now been updated to support your new asset or liability.
